The party boat

By Ned | July 15, 2008

Tom, friend of the blog and future roommate, just sent me this. It’s the official National Review cruise. And THE COOLEST EVENT EVER.

Seriously, look at the special events on the itinerary:

-Watch every single passenger on the ship weep uncontrollably over the events of the previous week’s election.

-Every room comes equipped with an animatronic Mitt Romney!

-Fred Thompson will personally deliver speeches to your room at night to lull you into a deep slumber.

-Brief trip to international waters for the opportunity to perform unspeakable acts on the Bill of Rights.

-Jonah Goldberg explains why puppies and chocolate are secretly fascist.

-In the event of an emergency, Goldberg’s ego can also be converted into a flotation device large enough to house eight people.

-Kathryn Lopez explains why Rick Santorum is totally gonna be president.

Does anyone want to sponsor me so I can go on this thing? Or maybe I’ll just stow away.

Johann Hari wrote a fly-on-the-wall account of the NR cruise in TNR last year. The link I had doesn’t work anymore, but it’s a good read if you can find it.

Be sure to give special attention to the bio for Kathryn Lopez, which begins:

“Kathryn Jean Lopez has been featured in Playboy* and praised for her ‘editorial daring.’”

I didn’t add the asterisk and there is no footnote asterisk at the bottom of the page. I half expected that the site had been hacked, but, alas, there was no humorous disclaimer playing off of “featured in Playboy.”
