Spreading the love
By Ned | February 8, 2008
Thanks to Matt for the friendly nod. Let’s keep this meme rolling with some more love for exemplary blogs:
Impetuous Young Whippersnapper: First off, I’ve got to return the friendly nod. Matt’s insanely intelligent and thoughtful, and pretty much the only high school senior I know who has this stuff down the extent that he could have Susan Faludi and Amanda Marcotte gang up on him in a debate about cultural criticism in TPMCafe and make it a fair fight. Watching that unfold might very well have been one of the coolest things to happen during my internship at the CafĂ©.
I’m going to swipe a couple from Matt’s list, too. Such as Minipundit, his Eastern Standard Time counterpart, whose blog is A) the best argument for Obama in the blogosphere (and a great antidote to Andrew Sullivan, whose unhinged Clinton-hatred gives Obama supporters a bad name), B) a very sound source of music criticism, and C) like Whippersnapper, written by a high school senior who knows much, much more about public policy in general than any high school senior has any right to.
And Ways to End the World, written by Mike Meginnis, who is one of those guys you don’t ever want to fuck with because you just know he has a perfectly acidic takedown of your argument that’s going to leave you completely unable to respond.
Also, let nobody forget that Spencer Ackerman, formerly of Muckraker and now of The Washington Independent, is still running his solo blog, toohotfortnr. Not only is this guy a great investigative journalist, he’s also one of the wittiest ones out there. He’s also among the last of a dying breed of men who are truly punk rock. It’s pretty much him, Greg Graffin and Henry Rollins against the world.
Fanatical Apathy: Adam Felber writes for Real Time with Bill Maher. Adam Felber knows politics and is also a successful comedy writer. Adam Felber has a blog. You should read Adam Felber’s blog.
I’ve also got to give a nod to my good friend John’s blog. He doesn’t blog nearly enough (hint), but when he does it tends to be about his next ridiculously awesome madcap scheme. Like the Juan-way Tour, where he’s buying a schoolbus, ripping out the inside, converting it to run on biodiesel, planting grass on the roof and then driving it across the country in the summer of 2009 - I plan to be hopping onboard for a substantial leg of the tour.
As I’ve mentioned here before, John also wants to give you free t-shirts. You’d be crazy not to take him up on that.
Since we’re moving out of politics territory, one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman, has a regularly updated blog that’s a great source of wonderfully bizarre, random links (like this one).
Stereogum is the only pure music blog I read, and since after my last gushing post about Andrew W.K. now might be a good time to salvage what’s left of my indie cred, I’ll direct you to their post today celebrating the amazingness that is Neutral Milk Hotel.

Thanks for the kind words. I like that between you and Matt it’s clear I’m sort of an incredibly angry, kinda scary guy.
