Tomorrow afternoon I’m going with a large chunk of the staff of Blue Prints to the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual convention for school newspapers. I’ve been there a couple of times previously and it’s always been a great time. Every year the editors from Blue Prints run their own workshop, and since this is my first and only year as an editor, it’s going to be an interesting trip.
The conference ends on March 16. On March 17, I’m on a plane to DC for the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Conference, with 101 other high school journalists from across the country. Should be an interesting time - I’ve talked to a few of the other people going online, and they all seem like great people to be around. I’m looking forward to meeting them in person.
Did I mention Tim Russert was going to be there? That’s going to be pretty interesting.
Anyway, given that the place we’re staying (the Watergate - crazy, no?) has Wi-Fi, and given that the whole reason I’m there is because of my journalism stuff, and given that I’m going to have the extremely rare opportunity to do stuff like question Tim freakin’ Russert, it would be bizarre if I decided to do a total communications blackout. So while I know that at Columbia I’m going to have neither the time nor the resources to blog, if I decide I want to take my computer to DC, you can expect some conference live blogging.
What a crazy idea, huh? You go out and do interesting stuff, and then you blog about the stuff you’ve done. I’m glad I discovered this. Makes you kind of wonder what the hell I’ve been writing about for the past 97 posts.
