Radioactive Scooter
By Ned | March 7, 2007
The political fallout of the Scooter Libby conviction is already starting to get kind of interesting. The new media narrative is this:
A) Cheney has been permanently tainted by his connection to Libby, and a lot of people believe that Libby is just the fall guy. Which of course should be obvious, but it’s funny to see a paper like the Times just come out and say it.
B) The Libby trial reflects poorly on the administration as a whole and strengthens the case that they misled us into war with Iraq.
That last one was huge. It’s the kind of thing I wouldn’t be surprised to read about in the blogosphere, but for a mainstream paper to suggest that is a pretty big leap, and kudos to them for making it. It is, after all, logical - this entire case is about the political assassination of an innocent woman simply because her husband was poking big holes in a fundamentally flawed and dishonest case for war. Whatever the results of the trial, it’s good to see some in the press taking note of that instead of portraying it as some kind of DC insider gossip war.
Oh, and I almost forgot the final lesson:
C) The Washington Post editorial page has somehow transcended space and time and broken into an alternate dimension.
